New Initial Consultation Policy
After a number of years without charging an initial consultation fee, the Firm is instituting a fee of $100-$200 for individuals (with the exception of individual bankruptcies and certain other matters for which the charge of an initial consultation fee is prohibited by law) and $250-$500 for corporations, subject to modification depending upon the type of matter involved and the length of time we anticipate for the initial consultation. We will explain the reasons for our change in policy if you would like to discuss them, but we have determined that it will benefit both you, our potential client, as well as the Firm, by ensuring that Mr. Backman is the right to attorney to represent you in the manner for which you are seeking the consultation. The consultation fee is due at the time of service. Although our communications relating to the matter for which you are seeking representation are protected by the attorney-client privilege even if you do not retain us to represent you in the matter, payment of the consultation fee does not obligate either Mr. Backman to accept your matter on an ongoing basis, or you to retain Mr. Backman as your attorney in the matter. Formal representations for the matter will arise only when the client and the Firm enter into a separate written retainer agreement.
MR. BACKMAN’S CASELOAD IS CURRENTLY FULL. HE IS NOT TAKING ANY NEW MATTERS AT THIS TIME.
